An art weekend in Stockholm – a 48-hour itinerary

Two days is enough to get a really good picture of Stockholm's art scene. Here's a suggestion that mixes museums, galleries and public art.

Saturday morning: Skeppsholmen

Start at Moderna Museet, where the collection is free, and continue to ArkDes on the same island. Then walk across Skeppsholmsbron to Nationalmuseum.

Saturday afternoon: galleries

After lunch, a gallery walk in Östermalm or Vasastan is a good choice. Galleries are often open for a few hours on Saturdays, so check opening times first.

Saturday evening: Fotografiska

Fotografiska on Södermalm has long opening hours and makes a great end to the day. The view over the water from the building is a bonus.

Sunday morning: Djurgården

Take the tram out to Djurgården and visit Waldemarsudde or Thielska Galleriet. Combine it with a walk along the water.

Sunday afternoon: metro art

End the weekend with a ride on the blue line, getting off at Kungsträdgården, T-Centralen and Solna centrum. A single ticket goes a long way if you plan your route.
