Inherited Words
Maria Friberg’s new photographs explore humanity’s relationship with time, knowledge and power through an encounter between a book cabinet and the sea.
Inherited Words is Maria Friberg’s first exhibition at Anna Persson Gallery and brings together a series of new photographic works. Photographed on Fårö, an antique cabinet holding old books stands in coastal waters as waves wash through its shelves and carry books into the sea. This confrontation between nature and culture raises questions about the value of knowledge in an age of digital consumption, and about resisting or letting go. A new book on the artist accompanies the exhibition.
